Meet the Book Dragon

I am Sumit Sehgal - a lifelong reader, reviewer, writer, educator, and the mind and heart behind
Book Dragon.

But before anything else, I am a Book Dragon.

For me, reading was never just a habit; it was a refuge, a rebellion, and eventually, a
responsibility. Over the years, stories have not only shaped my thinking but also helped me
understand people, emotions, and the quiet complexities of life itself.

Through Book Dragon, I have built more than a platform. I have built a space where stories are
not rushed through, but felt, where books are not judged by trends or labels, but by their
honesty, depth, and emotional resonance.

I read across genres, age groups, and forms; from children’s literature to literary fiction, from
poetry to powerful non-fiction. Because I believe that a good story does not belong to a
category; it belongs to the reader who finds themselves within it.

As an educator and mentor, I work closely with young minds, helping them discover the power
of language, storytelling, and self-expression through the Young Dragons’ Literary Hub. This
journey constantly reminds me that stories are not just something we consume; they are
something we carry forward.

Why I Review Books

My reviews are not summaries.
They are conversations.

Every book I read is approached with honesty, curiosity, and one question that matters above
all:

Would I genuinely recommend this book to another reader?

If the answer is yes, I tell you why it deserves your time.
If the answer is no, I tell you why it didn’t stay with me.
Because I don’t believe in reviewing books for the sake of it.

I believe in guiding readers toward stories that move them, challenge them, comfort them, and
sometimes, quietly change them.

I don’t just read books.
I listen to what they leave behind.

A JOURNEY ROOTED IN LITERATURE

My journey with literature began in 2011, after completing a creative writing course at the Sri
Aurobindo Centre of Arts & Creativity. What started as a quiet exploration of words soon
became a lifelong commitment — one that has shaped not just my career, but my identity.

Over the years, I have immersed myself deeply in the world of storytelling; not as a spectator,
but as an active participant in its many forms.

I have worn multiple hats along this journey:
— an author and poet, finding voice through expression
— a book reviewer, engaging critically and emotionally with stories
— a literary mentor and educator, guiding young minds toward language and creativity
— an events curator and festival collaborator, contributing to India’s vibrant literary ecosystem
— and above all, a champion of young writers and storytellers, nurturing voices that deserve
to be heard.

This journey has been recognised and honoured through the Rex Karmaveer Awards, from
Bronze to Platinum, for my contribution to literature and education. But beyond awards and
recognition, what continues to drive me is the ever-evolving relationship between stories and
readers.

I have had the privilege of working closely with literary festivals, authors, publishers, and
reading communities across India; each interaction reinforcing one simple truth:

No matter how many roles I take on, the reader in me always comes first.

No superficial praise.
Only honest, thoughtful, and deeply felt engagement with stories.

Because a book deserves more than attention;
it deserves understanding.

This is not just a space for reviews.
It is a space for readers who feel, think, question, and grow.

WHY BOOK DRAGON?

BOOKS.png

Because dragons don’t just read stories, they guard them.

They protect meaningful books from being lost in noise, trends, and fleeting attention.
They recognise stories that deserve to be remembered, not just consumed.

Book Dragon exists for that reason.

In a world overflowing with recommendations, ratings, and rushed opinions, this space slows
things down. It filters the noise and brings forward stories that carry depth, honesty, and
emotional truth.

This is where books are not reduced to summaries or stars.
They are explored, questioned, and felt.

Every recommendation here is intentional.
Every review is rooted in experience.
Every story shared is one that offers something real — whether it challenges you, comforts
you, or quietly stays with you.

Because the right book doesn’t just entertain you.
It finds you.
